The benefits of Yoga and its daily application cannot be emphasised enough and no matter how much one might read about it nor as fluently as I might wish to describe it, nothing but the experience of it would ever do the practise justice.
The only other experience that requires a similar realisation is being a parent for the first time, for no amount of words or second hand experiences can ever prepare one for the actual role, whether emotionally, practically or morally. That experience is absolutely impossible to describe to another until the person in question lives it whole-heartedly.
However, if I were to describe the experience of yoga in one sentence, then I would say; When finally the daily practise of yoga aligns ones core energy points, awaken ones multidimensional selves and allows for balanced calm in all daily activities, choices and relationships; one is left only marvelling on how was it ever possible to have lived and believed oneself to be alive without yoga.
Yoga is that profoundly powerful as an instrumental tool in assisting to better understand oneself, ones environment and everything that exists in-between. It will allow for the comprehension of internal self control to externally learn how to manipulate ones own universe, while taking the practitioner into a self discovery journey that ensures an eye opening experience that can be both frightening and exhilarating at the same time. Meanwhile yoga will also be healing of any emotional, physical or mental damage one may suffer from.
Such profound effects can only be realised through daily practise of a minimum of three hours per day, a serious yogi understands that absolute dedication to this spiritual practise can yield results that far exceeds any expectation. However, if yoga is only practise two-three times a week, its effects will be relaxing, rejuvenating and to release tension and stress.
A beginner should start with two-three times a week and slowly work up to daily practise of yoga, for like anything if one does not balance the effect of something that powerful newly entering ones life, then it could unlock and unleash emotions that mentally and physically one is not prepared to face or address yet.
By starting the practise slowly, but with absolute dedication, the effects will also begin to manifest slowly and therefore as and when any pending issues become apparent during practise, the teacher will guide the practitioner through the issue to better understand and handle its effects.
