Its seed must be planted, for it is already life. It must be warmed by the sun, watered by the rain and nurtured by the earth. It must be gently stroked by time, as much time as it needs, to take root. Slowly, tiny, tentative roots will make their way down to the soul of the ground. Gentle breezes and soft rays will coax the first shoots out of the darkness and soon, they will rise. They will rise out of the earth and into the light, where they will strengthen, as the roots deepen. This new life will keep rising and slowly a bud will curl from the growing stem and turn itself up and open to the sun, where it will bask and rejoice. Petal by petal it will open, throwing itself wide to the world and shining its own light back into the light of the sun
In good weather it will flourish; in bad it may hide away. If it is over-watered, it may drown; if the land is too dry and uncomforting, it may shrivel. If attended to with care, one day it will shed its own seeds, which will need to be planted, and the circle of life will start again.
But what is this seed and what makes it grow, what gave it life?
The answer is love.
